Google+ is still on its way up a very steep hill. With Facebook as the T-Rex dominating the social media ecosystem, the company usually associated with search is struggling. To build excitement for the platform, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners created a Google Hangout virtual ping pong tournament that has the best advertising agencies currently competing against each other. The tournament uses facial recognition to track players’ head movements to control ping pong paddles during the game. I have to say when I first went to the site, I thought it was a real life tournament, then an app and then a club. I think the creators might have tried to be little clever and left potential users stumped which could easily deter them from getting involved.
